Firefighting Task 10: Coupling Assembly

This task requires candidates to collect 7 different hose couplings from a box, and connect them to the partner couplings attached to a standing board. All couplings must finish ‘hand-tight’ and with corresponding colours correctly matched.

A candidate will be given a warning if:

  • A coupling is dropped.

Candidates will be deemed to have failed if they:

  • Receive a second warning.
  • Cannot complete all 7 connections.

Note:
Should a candidate place the wrong colour external lugs on the coupling board they will not be deemed to have failed. This is to be noted on their file as a potential colour identification issue and referred to the medical officer for review.

The recommended couplings (x7) are as follows:

  • 64mm storz.
  • 38mm stortz.
  • 38mm external lugs (x3 different colours to aid in ascertaining any potential colour identification concerns).
  • 3 and 5 TPI (the male connection to be on the coupling board and the female connection to be connected).
