Firefighting Task 9: 50mm Hose Advance

Candidates are required to pick up the fully charged hose as follows: one hand is placed on the taskforce tip (nozzle) and the other is on the pistol grip with the hose tucked under the arm.

They are then instructed to advance 5 metres into a designated boxed area. Candidates will lean forward and slowly open the branch and follow instructions on where to direct the hose for the next two (2) minutes.

Candidates will be given a warning if:

  • They do not hold the branch correctly
  • They step outside of the designated area marked on the ground

Candidates will be deemed to have failed if they:

  • Are not able to control the branch.
  • Receive a second warning for stepping out of the designated area.
  • Fail to direct the hose as instructed or does not drag the hose as instructed.
